Day #19 IL Lockdown

Hello,

Today I learned:

Found it on  Pinterest

I am getting a little bored.  I also hope to get unemployment soon.  Nevada has the first two weeks of lockdown where no ONE person can go anywhere and the stores will be CLOSED.  I cannot even imagine if they do this in IL.

I am working on my planner and also doing book reviews in a notebook.  I just posted the four books I am done with on goodreads.  Jackie Paulson is my name if you want to be a friend with me on there.

2/28/2020 Fun Day Off

Today is my day off which is much needed.  I am a hair  stylist with a HRM degree!  Chicago IL is not a great place to find work.  It is if you love to spend 90 %  of your life in a car and working downtown,  although most people wish for life work balance and it seems not to be around.

I don’t get two days off in a row or the weekends off.  Its a horrible schedule.

For fun I do diamond art, journal,  read, organize and clean.

Have a great day everyone!

Jackie

On the Road again!

Okay, thanks for stopping by my blog.  From October of 2016 to April 15th I was in OHIO.  I loved it there, but there were no jobs for me.  I am in College to get my Human Resource Degree (Masters).  I love to learn and study new things, and I love the challenge of being 50 years old and going back to college.

Low and behold, where I lived in Ohio, our cousins “got separated.”  I moved him to Florida, Jacksonville.  There were cousins there to let us all stay with them.  That lasted a month!  I went out of my mind.  Florida is too hot for me.  I had to take a job cleaning a hotel.  It was the worst job I ever had in my entire life, but I had to make money to get back to Ohio, to get my three cats, and then go to Illinois, where I had a Cosmetology job lined up.

The kicker is that after 13 hours of being on the road from FL to OH- we hit a DEER! It was not too bad but enough to scare the bejeezees out of me!  We kept going.  Mind you our breaks were badly needing a new set on the front.  It was a miracle we made it to OHIO.  We did get the cats and left for IL.  The worst part was going through the Chicago Skyline area!  Tollway.  So on May 15th I believe we got into IL, the day of Easter..or was it Sunday?

We had little money.

We stayed with friends for a month.

Then moved 2x’s since then.  Now it is the end of July, and almost August when the kids go back to school.

I am studying a lot, learning a lot.  Praying to find a place to live…permanently.

Life After Heaven by Steven R. Musick Book Review

Life after death COVER.jpg

Life After Heaven by Steven R. Musick

Mark Twain wrote, “The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.”  Do you ever wish you knew what it’s like for people to die, go to heaven and be sent back by God?  This is a true story written by Steven R. Musick.  I was impressed by how he shows God is at work in the world.  What you will learn is the secret of bringing heaven to earth in your everyday world, and how to nurture a relationship with God so real and intimate that you’ll feel his nearness as strongly as Steve did.  I was given this book from blogging for books for an unbiased review.  @ 2017 Jackie Paulson

Authors: Stop Selling Short

Today, I wish to talk about something that has been bothering me for a while. Time and time again I notice that books are being sold for as cheap as 99 cents. I am not talking about the used or unwanted books you sometimes see at the entrance of libraries. I am discussing about the ones that are being sold online, brand new and in various formats.

Why would an author sell years of his hard work, hours on end sitting, pondering, late night struggling while going over his written work, and  paying thousands of dollars to have it edited only to then sell it for 99 cents?

Do we have such an abundance of books out there that their work is only worth 99 cents after everything they go through to publish it? If yes, why bother?

Are they playing the number game? Assuming they will sell in millions and so 99 cents will still make them a profit?

Are they just doing all this for fun? They don’t anticipate any sales and so they do not care what the outcome is after it is published?

If you value and deem all this hard work to be worth only 99 cents, why would anyone else value it any higher?

In fact, if you dig deeper into the psychological influence you make in having a potential reader ponder over buying your 99-cent book or someone else’s 10-dollar book, you will notice that the buyer will pick the 10 dollar one.

This is because they unconsciously believe that if they buy a book that is 10 dollars then it must have something more to offer than a 99-cent book.

It is like the catch and chase theory. If you offer something for free, then it is not that appealing. If you make it a challenge, then everyone will be interested and will want to know what all the fuss is about.

People don’t buy a book because it is cheap, they buy it because it sounds good, the reviews are good, and the cover is appealing. So in my opinion, you are selling short on everything you sacrificed in producing. Why should you not enjoy having the satisfaction of expressing your thoughts in your book and also enjoy the exposure of it along side the financial security of which it brings?

Next time you wish to give away something for free, please consider, it maybe worth more than that.

THE ANONYMOUS BOOKAHOLICS TAG

February 18, 2017

I think it’s about time for another book tag! PAGESANDTEA tagged me for The Anonymous Bookaholics Tag, thank you!
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT BUYING NEW BOOKS?

Everything! I am a book buying lover!  I love walking into the bookstore and having so many new books tempting me, and looking for the most striking covers, reading blurbs on the back of books, ending up wanting about 5 new books and having to decide which one I’ll choose on that particular day and which will go onto my wish list. I have to say I love hard cover copies of books more than ebooks.  I do read both types.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU BUY NEW BOOKS?

I buy most of my books today in resale stores.  I always love to go on the treasure hunt in the thrift stores and I always go home with atleast two books I have not read before.  I usually hunt for the authors I am currently reading like Brad Meltzer, John Grisham, Johnathon Kellerman.

BOOKSTORE OR ONLINE BOOK SHOPPING – WHICH DO YOU PREFER?

I love hard copy books, so going to thrift stores is what I prefer.  If it’s a true crime, thriller or self-help book I will opt for the online ebook to read.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE BOOKSHOP?

I love Boarders for a book hunt but I also love Amazon online books, and Abe books because of the discounted rate.

DO YOU PRE-ORDER BOOKS?

Not usually, but I do buy them as soon as they come out.

DO YOU HAVE A MONTHLY BOOK BUYING LIMIT?

No not really.  If I want to read a book I buy it even if I cannot get to reading it right away.  I have moved and donated all of my books over the years that right now I am building up my empire of books as we speak which entails of maybe 20 books.

BOOK BUYING BANS – ARE THEY SOMETHING FOR YOU?

No.

HOW BIG IS YOUR WISHLIST?

I keep my want to read or buy books in the Amazon wish list so I don’t forget.

WHICH THREE BOOKS FROM YOUR WISHLIST DO YOU WISH TO OWN NOW?

I wish I owned all of Nicholas Sparks books.

I wish I owned all of Iris Johansen books.

I wish I owned all of Brad Metzler books.

So, what about you? Are you a bookaholic?
Feel free to consider yourself tagged and have fun answering the questions.
See you next time for another book tag!

The Beginning of my Blog-Writing:

I always loved writing. This Award picture reminds me of the typewriter that I used years ago to type my stories. I began blogging (My other blog, The Reflections, at https://thereflectionssite.wordpress.com/ ) in an attempt to reach out and interact with many like-minded people. I was always interested in all the amazing things hidden in the nature. So started writing this second blog, Fascinating World, a compilation of researched information that describes various unusual and rare phenomena of the nature.

Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers:

I do not consider myself an expert who can give advice; so here are my two suggestions:

  1. Reading every day will keep your mind sharp.
  2. Never stop being a student in this Blogosphere. The sky is the limit. Here there are so many genres and innumerable bloggers, each has something special to offer. So read and learn as much as you can from each one And Join the wordpress challenges
